Introducing Humanism & Welcome Remarks

The program From Humanism to Leadership will examine leadership from an interdisciplinary approach, employing philosophy, psychology, the humanities, and other fields of science to cultivate leadership skills within an intellectual and social context. What is leadership and what makes a leader? From Plato’s philosopher king to the modern innovator, the idea of a leader seems to have acquired a great variety of manifestations. ‘Introducing Philosophy’ discusses these manifestations, in order to explore what a philosophical discussion of the idea of a leader might entail.

Students will be introduced to the workings of drama through a theoretical introduction explaining drama’s origins in ancient Greek theater. Students are introduced to the significance of concepts such as tragedy (τραγωδία), catharsis (κάθαρση) and methexis (μέθεξη), while being invited to relate these concepts to personal experiences in the theatrical context. The module is held in the Greek language.  

Body Language Scenery

This module gives the students the opportunity to control their body and make it express -with the movement or the way of standing – their thoughts and feelings. Therefore, first, the students must read and understand the meaning of a short text (the best is a dialog with a kind of conflict or a strong feeling). Then, they must find the way to express the meaning of the text using their body and its movement. At the end, the students will build on the stage a live scenery, a scenery that speaks the body language. 

Sustainability Sessions

A field of action that equally requires our heightened awareness and our responsible decision-making is our relationship with the environment and sustainability. Therefore, the program offers a range of sustainable workshops that intend to encourage the participants’ understanding of and engagement with the relevant issues.

Debate Modules

Public speaking skills, most importantly the art of persuasion, are essential for anyone considering taking on a leadership role. Participants in the Pierce Leadership Academy will explore what persuasion means and discuss the ethical aspects of this art. These skills will be practiced through organized DEBATES once participants have been introduced to basic debate format and rules. The overarching goals of this module are:

  • to sharpen critical thinking skills and
  • to build self-confidence when addressing an audience. 

Emotional Intelligence Workshop

Being a great leader requires much more than one may initially think. By exploring the five pillars of emotional intelligence through various group activities and interactive exercises, students will develop their empathy, social skills and self-awareness of their own emotions and understand how this leads to increased leadership activity and improved decision-making.

Human Rights Sessions

The concept of Human Rights will be approached on the grounds of texts of Ancient and Modern Greek literature. In this course, students will have the opportunity to be familiarized with the way acknowledged represents of Ancient and Modern Greek literature promote Human Rights. Based on their work, students will perceive the significance of human rights issues, they will analyze them and they will be challenged to become human rights defenders in the framework of modern societies. They will, finally, conduct and present a project relevant to Human Rights issues.

Leadership Stories

In this workshop, students will learn great lessons of leadership through stories of leaders in Ancient Greece. These stories link the experience of Ancient Greek leaders to the modern corporate reality and attempt to bring value to different traits of Leadership such as building high potential teams and company culture, leading in crisis, talents and succession planning, Women Leaders and innovation.

Summer School Day Trips

Over the course of the three weeks, students will visit places and locations within and outside the Attica region.
