Biomedical Sciences
The Biomedical Sciences program aims to provide a thorough understanding of the critical role science has in human health and prosperity. Participants will familiarize with core concepts behind modern life sciences, they will reflect on the technical and ethical challenges which the biomedical field faces today, and they will learn about the innovations which will shape the future of biomedicine.
Participants will attend lectures on a comprehensive range of biomedical related topics and they will have the opportunity to obtain hands-on experience in various biomedical laboratory techniques. Following the scientific investigation method, they will perform experiments, they will analyze the experimental data and they will investigate hypotheses in order to draw meaningful conclusions. Overall they will be able to apprehend the scientific applications in fields like drug development, DNA technology, forensic biology, bioengineering, microbiology, anatomy, bioinformatics, disease diagnosis and research.
The program’s comprehensive approach organically integrates lectures and laboratory work with talks by experts in the biomedical research and visits in renowned research institutes. Participants are also expected to cooperate in group projects and workshops which will strengthen their creativity, communication and problem solving skills. Moreover, excursions will provide plenty of opportunities to socialize and interact with a diverse mix of students.
Being part of the Pierce Leadership Academy, the Biomedical Sciences program embodies a holistic learning approach where the ultimate goal of the acquired knowledge and skills is to instill responsibility and awareness, and through them drive for action and social impact.
